Do Adidas Sambas Run Small? Samba & Spezial Sizing in Canada

Quick answer: Adidas Sambas don’t really run small — they run long and narrow. The extra length makes them feel oversized, while the slim last makes them feel tight across the toes. For most people the fix is the same: go half a size down from your usual sneaker size. If you have wide feet, take your true size instead and give them a couple of wears to break in. Here’s how it plays out across the Samba and its close relatives.

Adidas Samba

The Samba is built on a low, flat, narrow last with a long toe. That combination is why so many people say to size down: at your normal size the shoe often feels a touch long and snug across the forefoot at the same time. A half-size down usually cleans up the length and, once the leather relaxes slightly with wear, the width settles too. Wide-footed? Stay true to size — going down will pinch.

Spezial, Gazelle, Campus and Handball

These share the Samba’s general terrace-shoe DNA but aren’t identical. The Spezial fits much like the Samba — long and slim, so a half-size down is common. The Gazelle is a little more forgiving and closer to true-to-size for many people. The Campus tends to run more true-to-size, sometimes even a hair snug, so plenty of people stay at their normal size. The Handball Spezial is low-volume and narrow like the Samba. The theme: the slimmer the silhouette, the more likely you’ll want that half-size down.

The one exception: wide feet

Because all of these run narrow, sizing down is the wrong move if you have a broad forefoot — you’ll feel it across the toes. Take your true size, and know the leather versions ease slightly after a few wears. If you’re truly between, the leather will give more than the suede.

How to be sure before you order

Measure your foot in centimetres (heel to longest toe, standing) and compare to the Adidas size chart for the specific model rather than assuming your habitual size — the narrow last is exactly why habitual sizing catches people out. Our Size Guide covers measuring and converting, and if you’re stuck between a half-size, message us before ordering. Want to try them on? We’re at 588 Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna, and we fit Sambas constantly.

Frequently asked questions

Do Adidas Sambas run small or big?

Neither exactly — they run long and narrow. The length makes them feel large while the slim last feels snug across the toes. Most people go a half-size down from their usual sneaker size; wide feet should stay true to size.

Should I size down in Adidas Sambas?

Usually yes, by a half size, because the Samba runs long. The main exception is wide feet, which should take true size since the shoe is narrow and sizing down will pinch.

Do Adidas Gazelle and Campus fit the same as the Samba?

Not exactly. The Spezial fits like the Samba (long and slim, often a half-size down). The Gazelle is a bit more forgiving and closer to true-to-size, and the Campus tends to run true-to-size or slightly snug.

Are Adidas from Gallery Streetwear authentic?

Yes. Gallery Streetwear is an authorized Canadian retailer for Adidas Originals. Every pair is guaranteed authentic and ships from Kelowna, BC across Canada.
