Last Resort AB Skate Shoes in Canada — Pontus Alv's Skate Footwear at Gallery Streetwear
Pontus Alv started Last Resort AB because he was frustrated. Frustrated with what corporate skateboarding had done to skate shoes — the bloated designs, the marketing-first thinking, the complete disconnect from how skating actually works. Last Resort AB is the correction. Built from scratch by someone who skates, designed exclusively around skating, with no interest in being anything other than what it is.
That's a short origin story but it's the right one. Last Resort AB doesn't need a complicated narrative. The shoes are good. The reasoning is sound. Everything else follows from there.
The Models: VM001, VM003, VM004
The VM001 is the anchor. A low-profile cupsole shoe — thin board feel, suede and canvas construction, a silhouette that's minimal almost to the point of being plain until you look closer and realise how precisely it's been thought out. The toe cap is positioned exactly where you need protection. The sole is flat enough to feel the board. It skates the way it looks: clean and direct.
The VM003 comes in higher, closer to a mid cut. More ankle coverage, same philosophy. It's the pick for people who want a bit more support without giving up the board feel. The construction quality across both is the same — Pontus didn't cut corners on materials because the shoes are meant to actually be used.
The VM004 extends the line with a slightly different approach to the silhouette — a bit more contemporary in its proportions while keeping the same minimal, functional intent. All three models hold up well against real skating. That's the only test that matters.
The Connection to Polar Skate Co.
If you know Polar Skate Co., you already know Pontus. Same founder, same Malmö address, same set of values. Last Resort AB is the footwear extension of a worldview Pontus has been building since he started filming in the early 2000s. The brands share an aesthetic — clean, considered, European — but Last Resort AB is specifically about shoes. Nothing else. That focus shows in the product.
Gallery carries both brands, and they sit well together. If you're building a skate kit that actually makes sense, Last Resort AB on your feet and Polar on your body is a coherent combination. Check out the Polar Skate Co. collection if you haven't already.
Why Last Resort AB in Canada is Hard to Find
Distribution is limited. Pontus controls who carries the brand, which means you're not going to find Last Resort AB in every shop that has a skate section. In Canada, the options are genuinely slim. Gallery is one of the few independent retailers stocking it properly — not just a pair of VM001s in one size, but an actual selection with multiple models and colourways.
We ship free across Canada on orders over $175 CAD. If you're in Kelowna, come into 588 Bernard Ave. If you're anywhere else in the country, we've got you online.

- What's the difference between the VM001 and VM003?
