Sandqvist came out of Stockholm in 2004. Two brothers — Anton and Daniel Sandqvist — started making bags because the bags they wanted didn't exist. Clean lines, durable materials, nothing unnecessary. That Scandinavian instinct toward function without excess is still exactly what defines the brand two decades later.
It's easy to make a bag that looks good in a photo. It's harder to make one that looks as good after two years of daily use. Sandqvist focuses on the latter. Organic cotton canvas, recycled polyester, vegetable-tanned leather hardware. The construction is meant to hold up — on a commute, on a trail, at the airport, wherever.
What Makes Sandqvist Different
The design is restrained. That's not a limitation — it's a deliberate choice. You won't find loud logos or aggressive branding. What you'll find is proportion, material quality, and hardware that operates cleanly. It's the kind of bag that works with a technical fleece and cargos just as well as it works over a button-up.
Sandqvist holds a number of environmental certifications — they work with GOTS-certified organic materials and have been carbon-neutral certified. Their Swedish origins mean they operate under strict environmental standards, and they take that seriously rather than treating it as a marketing checkbox.
For streetwear purposes, the bags are versatile in a way that most technical or lifestyle bags aren't. They're structured enough to carry a laptop and camera, relaxed enough to not look out of place at a skate spot or a record shop. That's the sweet spot.
What Gallery Used to Carry
The Sandqvist lineup at Gallery spanned backpacks, tote bags, and smaller accessories. The Hike and Bike collection brought in technical trail-ready options that looked clean in an urban context. The Harold backpack — a flat-bottomed, structured daypack — was one of the most consistent sellers. It sits well, organises cleanly, and doesn't look like every other backpack on the street.

Why Gallery Carried Sandqvist
Sandqvist never had widespread Canadian distribution. We carried it because it belonged alongside everything else we stock — brands that are built with real craft behind them. A Sandqvist bag complemented the clothing and footwear on our floor. It was not an afterthought.
