The “Dream State” continued that legacy with a refined colour palette, premium materials and the performance technology that made the model a favourite worldwide. Gallery does not carry it — this is a note on the shoe, not on our shelves.
A Fresh Take on an Iconic Running Silhouette
The 2002R “Dream State” stays true to the shape that made the original popular while introducing updated materials and construction. A breathable mesh base is layered with soft suede panels that add texture and durability, giving the sneaker depth while keeping the clean, technical look that defines many New Balance runners.
Subtle curves, layered panels and strategic cut-outs create a silhouette that reads both classic and modern.
Performance Technology That Still Delivers
Although the 2002R has become a lifestyle favourite, its performance roots are still part of the design. New Balance specifies Stability Web for arch support and structural balance, an N-ergy outsole for shock absorption, and a midsole combining ABZORB cushioning with ABZORB SBS in the heel.
That is New Balance’s own specification for the model, not a test we have run.
The “Dream State” Colourway
The “Dream State” edition used a calming palette inspired by drifting into sleep. Periwinkle suede wrapped the toe box and quarter panels, with blues and purples blending across the upper. The off-white midsole added a slightly aged look, and “Ice Wine” leather and suede details sat over a “Sea Stone” mesh base.

If you came here for the 2002R, the closest things on the shelf today are the 1906R — the same archive-running lineage and the same ABZORB and N-ergy cushioning family, in Black with Hot Tomato, Angora / Sea Salt / Shadow Red, and a women’s Rose Sugar / Pearl Grey — and the ABZORB 2000 and 2010, which sit in the same archive-running category. The 9060 is the bolder, chunkier option.
