The details that still define it are functional leftovers. The rubber T-toe overlay was protection for the part of the boot that took the most punishment. The low profile kept the foot close to the ball. The gum sole gripped ice. How does the adidas Samba OG fit? What adidas actually says

There is a widely repeated line that you should size down half in a Samba. That is not what adidas says.

Per adidas' own Samba size guide:

• The Samba runs true to size. Take your normal size.
• It is a regular fit that leans narrow.
• If you have wider feet, go up a half size — not down.

The shoe is narrow, but narrow is a width problem, and sizing down makes a width problem worse rather than better. The folklore exists because the Samba is a low, snug shoe and people confuse snug with long. If you are between sizes, or your feet are wide, up is the adidas-sanctioned direction.

Which Samba OG colourway should you buy?

1. The classic — black or white with contrast stripes

Cloud White with Core Black, or the reverse. The version everyone recognises, and the version everyone has.

2. The tonal — stripes that read as texture

Tonal colourways put upper, stripes and heel patch in one shade, so the stripes register as texture rather than branding. 3. The muted accent — one colour, desaturated

Leather or suede?

• Suede softens and creases into the shape of your foot. It marks more easily and wants a protector spray before first wear, especially through a Canadian winter.
• Leather is more weather-tolerant and wipes clean, but creases sharply across the toe box rather than softening.

Applies to both: the gum outsole yellows with UV exposure. Normal, not a defect, but a reason not to store them on a sunny windowsill.
