If you have followed Butter's deliveries for a while, you will recognise the shape of this one. Q3 is the drop where the Melbourne brand stops thinking about summer and starts building the winter uniform — knitwear appears, the denim gets heavier in feel, and the beanie wall goes from three options to eleven.
The denim: four fits, and they are genuinely different
This is the part worth paying attention to, because Butter has stopped offering one baggy jean in three washes and started offering four distinct cuts.
- Relaxed Denim Jeans – Selvedge Blue. The straightest of the four and the only selvedge in the delivery. Raw-leaning blue, the one that will fade to your own pattern rather than arriving pre-aged.
- Wide Cut Denim Jeans – Faded Brown Wash. The widest leg, in a brown wash rather than an indigo — an unusual call and the piece in this delivery most likely to sell out on colour alone.
- Thorn Camo Wide Cut Denim Jeans – Washed Indigo. Same wide block, with Butter's thorn camo worked into the fabric. Loud from close up, quiet from across a room.
- Solar Fade Denim Jeans – Grey Wash. The grey option, and part of the Solar range that runs through this whole delivery.
If you are choosing between them: Relaxed is the one you wear if you already own baggy jeans and want something you can tuck into a boot. Wide Cut is the skate fit. Thorn Camo and Solar Fade are the same block as Wide Cut with different surface treatment, so if the leg opening on Wide Cut works for you, all three will.
The beanie wall
Eleven separate skully and cap options landed, which is the deepest single headwear delivery Butter has sent us. Four skully shapes:
- Ribbed Skully — Washed Black, Washed Brown
- Stencil Skully — Black, Navy, Army
- Solar Skully — Black, Grey, Orange
- Warped Skully — Black, Marine
A skully is a short beanie — it sits above the ear rather than folding over it. If you have only ever worn a cuffed beanie, it wears noticeably shorter and it is the shape most Butter riders actually wear.
On the cap side: the Stencil Trucker in Leopard is the outlier and the one people will either love or walk past. Beyond that there is a Collegiate 6 Panel in Cherry, a Solar 6 Panel in Washed Black, Stretch 5 Panels in Washed Snow Camo and Washed Slate, a Warped 5 Panel in Forest Camo, and a Trumpet 5 Panel in Navy.
Tops, knits and outerwear-adjacent pieces
Two polos — the Camo Polo in Woodland and the Witness Stripe Polo in Tan / Ivory. Two knits — the Speckle Knit Sweater in Copper and the Panel 1/4 Zip Sweater in Ash. The copper speckle is the piece from this delivery we would point a first-time Butter buyer at; it does not read as a skate brand at all until you look at the label.
Two hoods: the Stretch Zip-Thru Hood in Snow Camo and the Ripstop Logo Applique Pullover Hood in Red. The ripstop is the more technical of the two and the applique is stitched rather than printed.
The tees
Black Moses Tee in Washed Black and White, Warped Tee in Chestnut, and the Terminal Tee in Red. Four graphics, no filler — Butter has been running smaller tee counts per delivery for a couple of seasons now and putting the volume into headwear and bottoms instead.
