Hélas Caps in Canada — Paris Skate Streetwear
Hélas in Canada — Paris Skate Streetwear with an Attitude
Hélas — pronounced "ay-lahs", French for "alas" — is the Paris-based skate label founded in 2010 by Lucas Puig and Stéphane Ashpool. What started as a premium cap line has grown into one of the most recognisable independent streetwear brands in Europe, known for its unmistakable umbrella logo, impeccable tracksuits, and a French-skate-meets-tennis-club aesthetic that doesn't exist anywhere else.
Gallery Streetwear is a curated Canadian stockist for Hélas. We carry the caps, tracksuits, tees and knitwear in our Kelowna store and online across Canada.
The Hélas story
Lucas Puig is one of the most technical skaters of his generation — adidas Skateboarding's flagship pro for over a decade. Alongside co-founder Stéphane Ashpool (also the designer behind Pigalle), Puig built Hélas with obsessive attention to fit, fabric, and the small details that matter to people who actually wear clothes hard. The umbrella logo is a nod to the French idiom — hélas, what a shame — a quiet anti-hype joke that became the brand's signature.
What Hélas makes
- Caps & bucket hats — the brand's foundation. 5-panels, 6-panels, bucket hats. Cotton twill, corduroy, fleece depending on the season. Some of the best caps in streetwear.
- Tracksuits — the Campo Suit is the piece that put Hélas on the map globally. Fitted cut, custom Jacquard fabric, impeccable make.
- Tees & polos — mid-weight cotton, often with tonal embroidery.
- Knitwear — cricket sweaters, cardigans, jacquard knits.
- Outerwear & pants — track pants, chinos, occasional seasonal jackets.
Hélas sizing in Canada
Hélas sizing runs on a European scale, cut closer than most American streetwear. For most customers: size up one from your usual streetwear size. Tracksuits and knitwear in particular are cut fitted — a US Medium is roughly a Hélas Large.
Styling Hélas
A Hélas cap pairs with literally anything — Dime MTL, Polar Skate Co, Gramicci. The full Campo Suit tracksuit sits beautifully with Adidas Samba. Hélas knitwear over a collared shirt with Loviah denim and Clarks Wallabees is the refined French-skate rotation.
