New Balance 1906R vs 2002R vs 9060: Which to Buy in Canada (2026)
The New Balance 1906R, 2002R and 9060 are three of the most popular sneakers New Balance makes. Of the three, Gallery Streetwear currently stocks the 1906R and the 9060 — the 2002R is not in stock. We are a Tier 1 authorized New Balance retailer in Kelowna, BC, shipping Canada-wide. This guide breaks down how all three differ, how they fit, and which one is right for you, so the comparison still helps even where we can't sell you the shoe.
The short answer
- 1906R — the sleekest and most technical-looking of the three. A Y2K running silhouette (built on the 860v2) with ABZORB and N-ergy cushioning and a stability web. Choose it if you want a running-shoe look that’s low-profile and fast. In stock at Gallery.
- 2002R — the plush, everyday all-rounder. Softer, more rounded lines than the 1906R, with a suede-and-mesh upper and a broken-in, cushioned ride. Not currently stocked at Gallery.
- 9060 — the chunky, statement one. Exaggerated proportions and a wavy 990-inspired build, the boldest silhouette of the trio. Choose it if you want a dad-shoe presence with maximum cushioning. In stock at Gallery, and our deepest New Balance run — seven colourways.
Design & style
All three live in the grey New Balance world the brand is famous for, but they read differently on foot. The 1906R is the cleanest and most understated — it pairs easily under slim and tapered trousers. The 2002R sits in the middle: retro-runner shape, soft suede overlays, and a versatile profile that works with most fits. The 9060 is the loudest — heavy midsole, sculpted lines and a taller stance that anchors baggier, wide-leg outfits.
Fit & sizing
New Balance lists all three as true to size, so order your normal New Balance size. Fit is the question we get asked most, and the honest answer is the boring one: there is no size-down rule for the 1906R, 2002R or 9060 in New Balance's own guidance, so we don't publish one.
- Width: the 1906R, 2002R and 9060 are offered in standard D width only. New Balance does make multiple widths across its wider catalogue — particularly performance running and walking — but not on these three lifestyle models. If a page tells you to order a 2E in a 9060, that fitting isn't made.
- Shape: the 9060 is narrower through the forefoot than the 1906R, despite looking like the chunkier shoe. Volume in the midsole is not room for your foot.
- Between sizes: take the larger of the two, and check your measurement against the New Balance chart for that specific model rather than carrying a size over from another brand.
If you're unsure, message us or drop by the shop and try them on — sizing help is what an authorized retailer is for, and a try-on settles in two minutes what a rule of thumb gets wrong. For a broader comparison, read New Balance vs Saucony: which fits better.
Which should you buy?
Want something sleek and technical? The 1906R. Want a bold, chunky statement? The 9060. Those are the two we can put on your feet today. The 2002R remains the softest everyday all-rounder of the three, but we are not carrying it at the moment — if that is the one you want, the 1906R is the closest thing on our shelves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the New Balance 1906R, 2002R and 9060 run true to size?
Yes. New Balance lists all three as true to size, so order your normal New Balance size. There is no size-down instruction for these models in New Balance's own guidance. If your measurement falls between two sizes, take the larger one.
What's the difference between the 1906R, 2002R and 9060?
The 1906R is the sleekest and most technical, the 2002R is the softest everyday all-rounder, and the 9060 is the chunkiest, boldest silhouette with the most exaggerated proportions.
Does Gallery Streetwear stock the New Balance 2002R?
No. We do not currently carry the 2002R. We do stock the 1906R and the 9060, and the 9060 is our deepest New Balance run.
Which New Balance is best for wide feet?
None of these three, strictly speaking — the 1906R, 2002R and 9060 are made in standard D width only. The 9060 is also narrower through the forefoot than the 1906R despite its bulkier look. New Balance offers wide fittings elsewhere in its range, mainly in performance running.
