The Hierro is New Balance's trail line, and the GORE-TEX version is the one that matters in the Okanagan. Shoulder season here means wet single-track, snowmelt and creek crossings well into spring, and a waterproof membrane is the difference between a run and a cold walk home.
Underfoot it runs dual-density Fresh Foam X — a softer layer nearer the foot, a firmer base beneath it for stability on loose ground. The upper is olive with a black overlay cage and a blue outsole, which makes it one of the better-looking trail shoes to wear off the trail as well.
