Parra in Canada — Amsterdam's Artist Label

by Parra is the clothing label of Pieter “Parra” Janssen, an artist and graphic designer born in Maastricht in 1976 and based in Amsterdam. He came up in the 1990s making posters and flyers for the city's electronic music and skate scene, started his first clothing label — Rockwell — in 2002, and launched by Parra in 2006. That second label is where the work most people recognise arrived: beaked characters, curved figures, flat colour, and hand-drawn typography that never quite sits straight.

• Caps (9) — six-panel and five-panel styles. The Signature six-panel in green, grey and purple, the Earl Face six-panel in blue, the Moto Service five-panel in green and black, and the Distorted 90s Memory five-panel in green and dark red.
• Tees & long sleeves (5) — The Hunted in white, the Signature Striped in green and the Signature in green, plus the Original Stripe long sleeve in pine green and the Tripped Stripes pique long sleeve in dark red.
• Socks (3) — Lowercase Scriptlogo crew socks in hot pink, acid green and black, with the script knitted up the side.
• Objects (3) — the Purple Camo Beast padded laptop sleeve, the Water Slapped Nalgene bottle, and the Waiting For You throw blanket.

Parra's own range is much wider than what we hold. Things by Parra makes that we do not currently have: hoodies, sweaters and knitwear, pants and jeans, outerwear, and footwear. Why Parra is different

Most graphic brands licence, commission or reference artwork. Parra is the artwork. Janssen shows in galleries and paints murals — the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art commissioned a 60-foot piece from him in 2012 that now sits in its permanent collection — and he has been designing for Nike since the Air Max 1 “Amsterdam” in 2005. The clothing carries the same drawings rather than a diluted version of them.

The recurring cast is part of it: Earl the Cat and the beaked women turn up across posters, prints and garments, so a Parra piece reads as part of a body of work rather than a one-off graphic. The result is a brand that sits slightly outside streetwear's usual reference points. It isn't skate-heritage and it isn't luxury-adjacent. It's a painter's colour sense on a six-panel cap.

Parra sizing

Caps are one size fits most with an adjustable back closure. Socks are one size. We do not publish a sizing rule for Parra tees — the size run is listed on each product page.
