Clarks Originals Canada — Wallabee & Desert Boot
Clarks made the Wallabee in 1967 and 58 years later it's still the most copied silhouette in casual footwear. Maple suede, black suede, beeswax leather, the Wallabee Boot, the Wallabee Cup — Clarks Originals has resisted the temptation to redesign what already works. Wu-Tang adopted them. Supreme collabbed. Ronnie Fieg has cosigned. The Wallabee has lived through every footwear trend cycle without changing meaningfully and has come out the other side as the quietest classic in the room.
Gallery is an authorized Clarks Originals retailer. We stock Wallabees in the colorways that actually move, plus Desert Boots, the occasional Wallabee Cup, and Wallabee Boots when the autumn weather demands them. Sizing tends to run roomy — most people size down a half from their standard.
Try them on at 588 Bernard Ave. Free shipping in Canada over $175. Suede care guide is on the size-guide page — keep them out of the slush, brush regularly, treat them, and they'll last a decade.
Clarks Originals in Canada — Wallabee & Desert Boot
Clarks Originals is the heritage line of the 200-year-old British shoemaker — the home of the Wallabee, the Desert Boot, and the Desert Trek. These are some of the most culturally significant silhouettes in footwear history — worn by Wu-Tang Clan, Oasis, reggae legends, every generation of UK subculture, and now a core streetwear rotation in 2026.
Gallery Streetwear is a curated Canadian stockist for Clarks Originals. We carry current seasonal Wallabee and Desert Boot colourways plus occasional archive reissues in our Kelowna store and online across Canada.
The Desert Boot — born in 1949
Nathan Clark designed the Desert Boot in 1949 after seeing off-duty British officers in Burma wearing crepe-soled suede boots adapted from South African veldskoen. The silhouette — soft suede upper, crepe sole, two-eyelet lace, hidden heel — has not fundamentally changed in 77 years. Modern pairs use OrthoLite footbeds inside but the exterior is the same shoe the Beatles wore.
The Wallabee — born in 1968
Lance Clark's 1968 design based on a German moccasin (the Sioux "Grasshopper") is one of the most instantly recognisable shoes ever made. Tubular construction — two pieces of suede stitched into a 360° foot wrap — crepe sole, plug toe. Raekwon called them essential for Wu-Tang. Biggie wore them. Ghostface Killah is nicknamed "Wallabee Kingpin." Thirty years later they are one of the most worn premium-casual shoes in streetwear.
Clarks Originals sizing in Canada
- Wallabee — runs true to size for most. If you are between sizes, go down half a size. Note: Wallabees are wider than most shoes — narrow-footed wearers may prefer half down.
- Desert Boot — runs true to size. No half sizes in some colourways — size down half if you are between.
- Desert Trek — runs true to size.
Caring for Clarks
Suede needs a brush — keep a suede nap brush by the door and go over the upper after every few wears. For the crepe sole: a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh cleaners — they will yellow crepe permanently.
Styling Clarks Originals
Wallabees sit cleanly with Gramicci G-Pants, baggy Loviah denim, or Butter Goods corduroys. Desert Boots work with Malbon Golf chinos or slim denim for a cleaner rotation.
